Heritage & Culture
Armenian Street
Armenian Street is a historic and artistic hub in George Town, Penang, known for its vibrant murals, heritage shophouses, galleries, and cafés. It reflects a unique blend of colonial and Peranakan influences.
From Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang, walk north on Lebuh Macallum, turn left onto Lebuh Carnarvon, then right onto Lebuh Armenian. The 850-metre walk takes 10–12 minutes. A drive or ride-hailing service takes 3–5 minutes.
Key attractions include famous street art like “Little Children on a Bicycle,” galleries like Galeri Prima, historic sites like Cheah Kongsi, and cultural shops. Wear comfortable shoes and light clothing. Mornings or late afternoons are the best times to visit to avoid crowds and heat.
There is no fee to enter the street, though some galleries and museums charge between RM10–30. Photography is permitted in public areas; always ask permission before taking photos inside shops or of residents.
