Arriving by Car

Travelling from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, or other key cities on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia is seamless via the PLUS Highway (E1).

Suggested Route from Kuala Lumpur (Approx. 4-5 hours’ drive):

  1. Take the PLUS Highway (E1) heading north towards Penang / Butterworth.

  2. Exit at Sungai Dua / Perai (Exit 160) and follow signs towards Penang Bridge (Jambatan Pulau Pinang).

  3. Cross the First Penang Bridge (E36) into Penang Island.

  4. Continue along Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu (Route 3113) heading north towards George Town.

  5. Exit at Macallum Street / Gat Lebuh Macallum.

  6. Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang is located along Lebuh Macallum 1, with easy access to the city centre and key attractions.

Arriving by Flight

Penang International Airport (PEN) serves both domestic and international flights. Travel time from Penang International Airport is approximately 30 minutes by car.

Suggested Route:

  • From the airport, head north via Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.

  • Merge onto Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu (3113) towards George Town.

  • Exit at Macallum Street / Gat Lebuh Macallum.

 

Transport Options from Airport:

  • Airport limousine and taxis (available at arrival halls).

  • Ride-hailing services such as Grab.

  • Hotel-arranged private transfers (available upon request).

Arriving by Train (Via Butterworth on the Mainland)

Penang Island does not have a railway station. Instead, all train services terminate at Butterworth Railway Station (KTM ETS / KTM Komuter) on the mainland of Penang (Seberang Perai). Butterworth is Penang’s mainland gateway, and offers easy connections to the island via ferry or bridge.

Travelling from Butterworth to George Town (Penang Island):

Option 1: By Ferry

  • From Butterworth Railway Station, walk to the adjacent Penang Sentral transport hub, where the Raja Tun Uda Ferry Terminal is located.

  • Take the Penang Ferry across to George Town (Pengkalan Weld Terminal).

  • The ferry ride takes approximately 10 minutes.

  • Upon arrival, Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang is just a 10-minute drive from the ferry terminal.

 

Option 2: By Car / Ride-Hailing via Penang Bridge

  • From Butterworth, cross the First Penang Bridge (E36) into George Town.

  • Follow directions via Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu (3113) to Macallum Street.

Arriving by Ferry (From Mainland to Island)

The historic Penang Ferry service connects mainland Butterworth to George Town Ferry Terminal (Pengkalan Weld) on the island. This remains a scenic and practical option for pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists.

Duration: Approximately 10 minutes per crossing.


Frequency: Regular daily services between 6:30am to 8:30pm.

From Pengkalan Weld Ferry Terminal, it is a short taxi or Grab ride to Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang.

Arriving by Express Bus (Via Butterworth / Penang Sentral)

Long-distance express buses typically terminate at Penang Sentral in Butterworth.

Option 1: Via Ferry

  • From Penang Sentral, walk to the connected ferry terminal and follow the same steps as above to reach George Town.


Option 2: Direct Bus to George Town

  • Some bus operators proceed directly onto Penang Island via Penang Bridge, terminating near Komtar Bus Terminal.

  • From Komtar, Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang is a 5-minute drive away.
