Hidden Gems

Esen Beach (Fishing Village)

Esen Beach is a quiet coastal village in Permatang Damar Laut, offering a glimpse into traditional fishing life and a peaceful natural setting.

The drive from Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang takes 40–45 minutes via the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway toward Teluk Kumbar. Parking is available near the village mosque.

Visitors can observe local fishermen, enjoy fresh seafood at simple stalls, and walk along the timber jetty. A 45-minute hike to Paradox Hill offers a unique natural illusion. Evening firefly boat tours are available through local guides.

Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear and bring sun protection and insect repellent. The beach is best visited on weekday mornings (7–10 AM) for calm weather and active village life. There is no entrance fee, but bring cash for food and tours.
