Kek Lok Si Temple
Kek Lok Si Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, located in Air Itam. Founded in 1891, it is known for its grand architecture, serene gardens, and cultural significance.
The drive from Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang takes 20–30 minutes. Rapid Penang buses 203 or 204 also stop nearby.
Highlights include the Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas, the 36.5-meter-tall Kuan Yin statue, and the Turtle Liberation Pond. Modest dress is required. The inclined lift to the upper levels has a small fee.
Open daily. Mornings (9–11 AM) are ideal to avoid heat and crowds. Allow 2–3 hours for a full visit. No general entry fee, but donations are appreciated. The temple is especially vibrant during Chinese New Year with lantern displays.
